While various smartphone vendors have released their iterations of a smartphone with a flexible display, the foldable handset market is still not within the reach of an average consumer. The prices of a foldable device can be higher than even the most expensive flagship products. But now, a new rumor claims that Huawei is planning on launch an affordable foldable smartphone later this year.

According to Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, Huawei will release an affordable foldable phone alongside its flagship Mate 40 series this fall. The senior official revealed this information during an interview on YouTube and stated that the Chinese tech giant is developing an inward bending smartphone, which is different from Huawei’s two previously released foldable phones, the Mate X and Mate Xs.

Young said that he “expects to see Huawei pursue both a clamshell and an in-folding model, and we think they’re struggling to come up with an ultra-thin glass solution right now for the clamshell. But we do expect them to do an in-folding model later this year and be pretty aggressively priced.”

Reportedly, Huawei has already placed a large order of 500,000 units for this upcoming foldable smartphone, which is going to be “aggressively priced.” Ross Young claimed that we can expect to see this product launch sometime in September or October 2020. Unfortunately, we have no confirmation from Huawei regarding this news as of right now.
