Earlier today (20th May 2020), Razer announced a brand new product. While the company is generally associated with gaming, and by its extension, flashy RGB and gaming aesthetics, the new Razer Opus is actually the opposite of that. The new pair of headphones is targeted for audiophiles and arrives with a minimalistic design that offers noise cancellation technology as well.

The Razer Opus is a $199 headphones that fit over the ears and even have a THX certification for theater like audio quality. Opus is a collaboration between Razer and THX, with extensive testing for the certification. According to the head of THX Certification, “the result is a high-performance wireless headphone that delivers a rich, balanced soundstage, clear vocals, and deep impactful bass optimized for music, games, and movies.”

In other words, a highly versatile pair of headphones that good for more than just gaming, unlike most gaming accessories makers’ offerings. Looking into the build quality, the Opus sports a faux leather material for its earcups and for the cushion on the headband for a proper and comfortable fit. Furthermore, its battery is rated for up to 25 hours of playback with ANC enabled on a single full charge.

For connectivity, the Opus can connect to devices via Bluetooth 4.2 and support AAC, APTX, A2DP, AVRCP, and HFP codecs. Additionally, one can even use a 3.5mm audio cable. Razer has called the ANC technology an “Advanced Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation” system for its headphones. This system utilizes four microphones to offer noise cancellation, with each earcup featuring one microphone on the inside and one on the outside. This is where the hybrid part comes into play as it helps in lowering passive sounds when putting on the headphones.
