According to Strategy Analytics, the global smartphone shipments are expected to fall by about 11 percent to 1.26 billion units this year. This revised figure arrives after the original projection of 15.6 percent. The analytics based firm further stated that the new estimation reflects a faster recovery rate in various markets including, the US, Europe, and India, amid a new market growth on the back of growing trends like work from home and learning at home.

Furthermore, the economic recovery in 2021 and more widened adoption of 5G networking and foldable smartphones will lead to overall market growth of 9 percent in 2021, with a 2019 level of shipments (1.41 billion units) being reached again by 2022. In the rankings, Samsung is expected to maintain its lead with 265 million units being shipped or 21 percent market share, followed by Apple with 192 million units shipped and a market share of 15.3 percent.
