Riding on the success of the OnePlus 8 series models that were released earlier this year, OnePlus has officially announced the OnePlus 8T 5G in a virtual event held today. The premium flagship model promises a host of topnotch features but less improvement compared to previous models in the T series. OnePlus 8T 5G

First, the model wasn’t upgraded to the Snapdragon 865+ chipset as used to be the case but retains the Snapdragon 865 chipset just like we earlier reported. The Snapdragon 865 is the same chipset utilised on the OnePlus 8 and it teams up with a Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System, which enables staggering multi-gigabit 5G connectivity, professional-quality photography at Gigapixel speeds, desktop-level gaming with ultra-realistic graphics, and intuitive AI experiences. The processor also brings support for dual-mode NSA + SA 5G and Wi-Fi 6 enabling faster, more reliable data speeds.

The processor is paired with 8GB / 12GB RAM while there are 128GB and 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage options.OnePlus 8T 5G

Next, we take a look at the OnePlus 8T 5G display. The flagship device packs a 6.55-inch Fluid 2.5D flexible AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, Just Noticeable Color Difference (JNCD) of around 0.3, a peak brightness of up to 1,100 nits and 8,192 levels of brightness.  The display is the first flat 120Hz display ever to earn an A+ rating from DisplayMate.

For photography, the OnePlus 8T 5G features a robust and versatile camera kit designed to efficiently capture any and every moment in crisp detail. The packs a quad-camera system at the rear which includes a 48MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and dedicated macro and monochrome lenses, letting users enjoy studio-level photography on the go. There is equally a 123-degree ultra-wide lens on the OnePlus 8T 5G which provides a new perspective for framing shots so users can confidently capture vast landscapes, expansive architecture and other wide-angle subjects in full view. The camera also comes with an improved Nightscape mode. The new Video Portrait mode produces vivid clips with a natural bokeh effect based on improved AI, accurately detecting and analyzing human subjects and blurring out the background.OnePlus 8T 5G

The OP8T packs a 4500mAh battery but this time around instead of one cell, it is split to two different cells for better heat dissipation. The device comes with the company’s proprietary Warp Charge 65 which is OnePlus’ most advanced charging solution ever. For reference, the charger can deliver up to 60% charge in just 15 minutes. The battery can charge from zero to full charge in just 39 minutes. The phone tags along 12 temperature sensors as well as an extra encryption chip in the adapter and cable, to keep charging temperatures at a comfortable level while operating at a peak output of 65W.

For the interface, the OnePlus 8T 5G arrives as the first smartphone apart from Google Pixel models to run Android 11 OS out of the box. The device runs on Oxygen OS 11 based on Android 11. The OxygenOS 11 delivers an improved layout, bold design and useful features that make one-handed operation easier and more intuitive. There is also an improvement to the Always On Display (AOD), improved one-handed gesture controls, Zen Mode 2.0 and several other improvements on the software side.
