Sony has officially announced the WF-1000XM4 truly wireless earbuds via an online event. The Sony WF-1000XM4 has been in the rumor mill for the past few weeks. The official unveiling of the WF-1000XM4 confirms the sleek, compact build as well as star-studded specs lineup. In terms of the design, the new earbuds are not only smaller but also come with a better design that fits the ear better, has improved audio quality, and enhances noise cancellation compared to their predecessor. The earbuds are equipped with a Sony V1 chip which delivers improved active cancellation of high frequencies and delivers up to 40% lower noise levels when compared to its predecessor. The buds are also touted to be the world’s first TWS earbuds to feature support for Hi-Res audio over the LDAC codec. In case you don’t know,  LDAC transmits thrice the amount of data compared to typical Bluetooth audio. The TWS buds also bring support for 360 Reality Audio to deliver an immersive audio experience. You also get an automatic wind detection feature that activates the wind noise reduction function. Sony WF-1000XM4

The audio aspect also saw improvements in the aspect of driver units which are equipped with larger magnets as well as better diaphragm. The diaphragm is more flexible, which allows it to generate better cancellation signals at lower frequencies. The flexible diaphragm also outputs a richer bass.

Further, the earbuds utilize polyurethane foam tips that help reduce noise even when the ANC is turned off. The gadget equally comes with fast pairing support on both Android and Windows 10. It also detects the ear fit and prompts the user to adjust for a better fit.

The buds also come in useful for receiving voice calls, even in a noisy environment. It is equipped with bone-conducting technology as well as powerful microphones. The earbuds also support Alex and Google Assistant voice prompts.

The Sony WF-1000XM4 also arrives with a powerful battery setup. Each bud can withstand up to 8 hours of music playback with ANC while the usage hour can be bumped up to 12 hours when it is turned off. The carrying case can even extend the battery life by some 24 hours with noise cancellation enabled and 36 hours when it is disabled.

Talking of the carrying case, the XM4 comes with a compact case that supports faster charging. The case also supports Qi wireless charging. For the faster-charging feature, Sony touts a 5 minutes charge to offer 60 minutes of playback.

The XM4 comes with an IPX4 rating which means that it can be used in the rain. The earbuds will be available in Silver or Black color options.

As for the price, the Sony WF-1000XM4 will retail for $280 in the US and €280 in Europe. The buds are presently available via both offline and online.
