The POCO M2 Pro was launched in India last July. The device debuted with MIUI 11 based on Android 10. It was updated to MIUI 12 two months post-release. Now, over a year after its launch, the handset has started receiving the Android 11 update.
The POCO M2 Pro is a modified version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro sold in India. Hence, when the latter got the Android 11 update in November, we expected the former to receive a similar treatment in the next few days.
Unfortunately, that did not happen and the POCO M2 Pro is being updated to Android 11 only now. In other words, the device is getting last year’s Android nine months after the Redmi Note 9 Pro got it.
What’s even more bizarre is despite receiving the Android 11 late, Xiaomi has not bundled MIUI 12.5. This means users will have to wait even more further to be on the latest version of mobile software offered by the company.
Anyway, the new software update for the smartphone arrives with build number V12.0.1.0.RJPINXM. Apart from bringing a new Android version, it also bumps up the security patch level to August 2021.
Like any other OTA system update, this one is also being rolled out in batches. As a result, some users might receive it earlier, while others will have to hold back for a while. At the end of the day, all users will get to experience the new software.
