MediaTek has seen robust growth in the smartphone chipset market in recent times. Although it seems that the growth wasn’t simply restricted to its market share, but also its chip’s performance.

While Qualcomm is one of the main rivals of the Taiwanese chipmaker, MediaTek might have its sights set even beyond. Known tipster Ice Universe recently shared a GeekBench listing of the brand’s latest flagship Dimensity 9000 SoC, and its performance was impressive. As of right now, the chipset is the company’s most powerful SoC ever and has managed to beat even Qualcomm’s current gen flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, in some benchmarks.

No smartphone has launched with the new chip, however, many brands will be releasing their offerings soon. Looking at he GeekBench listing shared by Ice Universe, the Xiaomi smartphone (which might be the upcoming Redmi K50 Pro+) scored 1309 points in the single core test and 4546 points in the multi core tests. In comparison, the Exynos 2200 on the Galaxy S22 series got 1157 and 3307 points respectively. Similarly, the Google Tensor chip on the Pixel 6 Pro also managed to receive a score of just 1042 and 2832 points in the same tests.

MediaTeK Dimensity 9000

So, the Apple A15 Bionic is the only chipset that managed to get a score that decisively beats the Dimensity 9000 SoC, with its score of 1734 in single core test and 4818 in the multi core test. Keep in mind that synthetic benchmarks only show raw performance and not how the chipset might actually perform in real life. But its still impressive that MediaTek managed to near Apple’s top SoC and even outperform Qualcomm, which is usually the go to chipset for flagship Android phones.
