Flagship phone lineups seem to be getting expanded lately with a greater number of variants being launched this year and the last. The Xiaomi 12 series, for example, included not only the Xiaomi 12 Pro, 12, and 12X but is set to soon get a fourth model in the form of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. This phone has reportedly already hit the mass production stage and may reach consumers by June.

A number of unofficial renders have been making rounds on the internet for a while now but some digital bloggers on Weibo today revealed some new bits about the upcoming phone. According to Digital Chat Station, the new flagship codenamed l1 will continue to use ceramic for its rear and will be sold in white and black colors. Glass options may be present too.

Compared to glass, ceramic is more difficult to mold, has a better texture, and offers greater durability due to improved scratch resistance.

The tipster also stated that while they’re yet to see a leather version of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, the possibility of a variant with the material cannot be ruled out (via IT Home).

In other respects, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset with the model number SM8475, based on TSMC’s 4nm process. It will also have a 120Hz QHD OLED display, a 4,900 mAh battery with 120W fast charging support, and a Leica-branded camera module at the rear.

The camera module is arguably one of the most interesting parts of the device and its ginormous module spans across almost the entire top half of the device. This module contains a center-aligned circular camera island with 3 cameras inside.
