It was reported in March that at least three Xiaomi phones featuring the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset are in the works. Xiaomi 12 Ultra, which is expected to debut in Q2 this year, could be equipped with the SD8G1+. According to a new report by Xiaomiui, the forthcoming flagship phones, named Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro, will arrive with the SD8G1+ chip onboard.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, built by Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process, is present under the hood of the Xiaomi 12, 12X, and 12 Pro flagship phones. The Taiwan-based TSMC is reportedly manufacturing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus (part number SM8475) with its 4nm process. As the moniker suggests, it could be an overclocked version of the SD8G1.
The SD8G1+ is expected to debut in early May, and the first smartphones powered by the new chip may hit the markets in June. Motorola, Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Samsung are some of the brands that are rumoured to be making phones with the SD8G1+ chip.

The Xiaomi 12S has a “Diting” codename, a 2206123SC model number, and an L3S shortened model number. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12S Pro has a “Unicom” codename, a 2206122SC model number, and an L2S shortened model number. Unfortunately, the rumor mill is yet to spill information on the specifications of the Xiaomi 12S series.
In related news, Xiaomi is working on the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G mid-range smartphone. It is expected to arrive with a 6.55-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 778G mobile platform, 6 GB / 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB / 256 GB of storage, and Android 12 OS with MIUI 13 on top. For photography, it will feature a 16-megapixel front camera and a 64-megapixel (main, with OIS) + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 5-megapixel (macro) triple camera unit. Since it has bagged FCC certification, it is likely to launch later this month or in May.
