Over the last couple of weeks, we have reported on Sony working on a new pair of truly wireless earbuds. These new models are a part of the LinkBuds series and are called the LinkBuds S. Now, we have some more details regarding these earphones prior to its launch.

According to a WinFuture report, the Japanese tech giant is planning on launching the LinkBuds S soon. Unlike the non-S variant that featured the open loop design, the upcoming version features a more conventional closed design. However, these aren’t just like any other TWS earphones in the market since apparently each of the individual earbuds weigh just 4.8 grams. In other words, the LinkBuds S could very well be the “lightest and smallest” earbuds in the market.

Keep in mind that it still offers latest technologies like noise cancellation and High resolution audio despite being so light. This also implies that Sony has another aspect of the LinkBuds S to advertise when marketing the new product. In comparison, the popular Apple AirPods Pro weighs around 5.4 grams per bud, while the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 weigh around 5 grams as well. On the other hand, Sony’s WF-1000XM4 weighs a notable 7.3 grams.

While a lighter weight should also translate to a smaller battery pack, it seems that the LinkBuds S will still manage to deliver decent audio playback. It will reportedly run for 6 hours (likely with ANC turned off) and go up to 20 hours when paired with its charging case. So stock around for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this product.
