Huami, now known as Zepp Health, today held a launched event where it officially announced the Amazfit T-Rex 2 smartwatch in China. The T-Rex 2 is the successor to the Amazfit T-Rex that was launched in 2020. The smartwatch carries a decent price of 1,499 yuan (~$225).
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 retains the rugged and sleek design of its predecessor. It is equipped with a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with the display content still clearly visible even in strong outdoor light. The watch weighs 66.5g including the strap and it comes with 15 military certifications. The watch can be used in extremely cold weather with ambient temperatures as low as -30°C. It is also built with up to 100-meter water resistance level, five-star dual-frequency precise positioning, trajectory & navigation, and other functions.
The T-Rex 2 packs four prominent stainless steel metal buttons which are processed and polished by sandblasting and etching. Users can quickly find the operating position in the outdoor environment.
The strap is made of antibacterial silicone material, which can effectively reduce the probability of allergies. It is skin-friendly and comfortable. The inner sweat-wicking design keeps it dry and not sticky.
The T-Rex 2 battery is treated with a special process, which can not only be stored in extremely low temperatures but can even be used in an environment as low as -30°C. Core functions such as time, compass, barometric altimeter, and sports mode can still be turned on normally, and the positioning accuracy will not be affected.
The watch comes with support for five global satellite positioning systems, including Beidou, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS. The positioning speed is faster and the positioning accuracy is higher. In addition to the L1 frequency band, the L5 frequency band has been added this time, which can reduce the ionospheric and ground multipath errors and improve the interference of the external environment on the positioning of the watch.
The smartwatch also arrives with support for more than 150 sports modes such as mountaineering, skiing, fishing, and others. Under the hood, there is a 500mAh battery that provides up to 24 days of battery life on normal usage. The battery life goes up to 45 days in basic watch mode and 10 days in heavy usage.
The Amazfit T-Rex 2 comes in four color options and will go on sale on May 31 in China. We expect the company to also release this model for the global market in no distant time.
