The long-awaited Google Assistant functionality had arrived in some markets last week. This was after more than 8 months of waiting. But it seems the rollout came with a whimper. Multiple issues have been voiced out by Galaxy Watch 4 owners who installed Google Assistant. Some users have reported experiencing a rapid discharging of their batteries, and disconnection from their paired phones. Some others claimed that the always-on hotword detection feature is not accurate and was causing battery drain.

Users said that they have been unable to restore the seamless pairing of their Galaxy Watch 4 with their smartphones since the installation of Google Assistant. Some users however claimed that they were able to restore pairing after a hard reset of the smartwatch. A hard reset leads to the loss of health and fitness data on the device, except there is a backup. A hard reset will also mean re-installation and configuration of apps afresh including Samsung Pay.

There are also issues raised about Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4 being much slower than in previous devices.

Samsung and Google have not made any statements yet on the Galaxy Watch 4’s Google Assistant issues. It is also not clear whether users outside the United States were also experiencing the issue. It is expected that these stability and reliability issues will be fixed with an update.
