In February, Redmi unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered Redmi K50G (Redmi K50 Gaming) in China. In the next month, it announced the Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro with Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 900 SoCs onboard. It looks like Redmi might be working on a more powerful flagship phone in the K50 series. It might be called the Redmi K50 Ultra and come out in China in the next few months.

According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is working on a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 powered flagship phone for the second half of 2022. He added that the device will be equipped with a flat display that offers a Quad HD+ resolution and may carry support for 100W (or 120W) fast charging.

While he did not explicitly mention the name of the device, it appears that the device could be called the Redmi K50 Ultra. The above specs suggest that it may arrive as the most powerful Redmi flagship phone. The leak also mentions that there could be a Dimensity chipset variant of the same phone.

Several smartphone OEMs are planning to launch Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 powered smartphones in the second half of this year. It is speculated that Motorola could be the first brand to announce an SD8+G1 phone.

Some of the other devices that are expected to feature the SD8+G1 chip include the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition, the Xiaomi 12S series, the iQOO 10 series, the OnePlus 10 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It appears that the alleged Redmi K50 Ultra may arrive as one of the most affordable phones with SD8+G1. Hopefully, newer reports will reveal more details about the smartphone.
