It is very rare to find a waterproof phone in the budget segment. The most advanced IP certifications are often reserved for the most expensive flagships due to the high costs necessary in order to make a phone waterproof. But there are a few affordable phones with these certifications that you can buy in the current market, at least if you live in certain regions. Among these, there is the new OPPO Reno 7A, announced a bunch of hours ago. Another device with a water resistant design is the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G sold in the global market: this device reached very interesting street prices and a lot of people are choosing it not only because of its water resistance but also because of its specifications. This is a comparison between the specifications of the OPPO Reno 7A and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G.

Design
Starting with the design and the build quality, the OPPO Reno 7A is the clear winner in this duo. First of all, it is thinner, lighter, and even more compact than the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G. Its design is more beautiful, with more suggestive color variants and a punch-hole display with a hole placed in the upper left corner. Further, it has better water resistance: thanks to the IP68 certification, it is waterproof and you can put it underwater up to 1.5 meters deep for a max time of 30 minutes. Instead, the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G comes with the inferior IP67 certification allowing you to put the phone underwater just 1 meter deep and for a max time of 30 minutes. So if you are looking for the best phone in terms of water resistance, you should go for the OPPO Reno 7A.
Display
Both these phones are equipped with AMOLED displays, but the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is slightly better. They come with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader, but the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G has a higher refresh rate of 120 Hz instead of just 90 Hz. The A52s also comes with stereo speakers instead of the mono speaker found on its rival. However, you should consider one important thing: the Samsung mid-ranger has a virtual proximity sensor, while the OPPO Reno 7A has a physical sensor. This is an important thing because a lot of people experienced issues or poor performance with virtual proximity sensors during these last years, so you should take it into consideration before making your choice, at least in my opinion.
Specs & Software
If your goal is to get the most advanced hardware department, then you should opt for the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G. First of all, it comes with a better processor: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G built at 6 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz. The SoC is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage that can be furtherly expanded with a micro SD slot. The OPPO Reno 7A has an inferior Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset built at 6 nm with a max frequency of 2.2 GHz. Further, the memory configuration is inferior: it only comes in a single variant with just 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Even though the OPPO Reno 7A debuted in 2022 and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is from 2021, both these phones run Android 11.
Camera
The best camera phone in this comparison is the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G and it can be considered a very good camera phone. It has a quad camera setup composed of a 64 MP main sensor with OIS, a 12 MP ultrawide camera, and a pair of 5 MP sensors for macros and depth calculation. The front camera is a great 32 MP snapper that can record 4K videos at 30 fps: note that even several flagships are not able to record 4K videos with the front camera. The OPPO Reno 7A has a disappointing 48 MP main sensor paired with a pair of 2 MP cameras for macros and depth, it lacks an ultrawide camera, and its front camera is an inferior 16 MP snapper. There is no way for it to compete with the Samsung mid-ranger.
Battery
The OPPO Reno 7A and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G come with the same battery capacity: 4500 mAh. Given that they both feature AMOLED displays and they come with similar chipsets in terms of energy consumption, the battery life should not differ so much. But the charging speeds are different: the A52s 5G charges quicker thanks to 25W fast charging.
Price
The OPPO Reno 7A is priced at €320/$336 and it is only available in Japan, while the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G can be found for less than €280/$294 globally (prices vary depending on the market). The Samsung mid-ranger wins the comparison, but note that the Reno 7A has better water resistance.
