Chinese tech giant Lenovo has teased a new rollable Thinkpad laptop with a 12-inch screen that can vertically expand to 16 inches. The Thinkpad laptop is among a few Lenovo products sporting a rollable display.

Flexible panel technology seems to be an area Lenovo is making investments. The ThinkPad X1 has a folding screen, but a rollable display holds some aesthetic appeal. It is also potentially more expensive to have rollable panels. The foldable technology has a higher adoption rate coupled with lower implementation costs.

A rollable however overcomes screen crease issues present in foldable models. It is a rarity to see a rollable display outside smartphones. However, Lenovo is expanding the frontiers of rollable technology to laptops. The Thinkpad laptop with a rollable screen was showcased at the Lenovo Tech World 22 event.

Lenovo says it will continue to explore form-factor innovation exemplified by the rollable Thinkpad laptop. It says that the rollable technology offers a superior experience for multitasking, browsing, and several other applications.

The laptop could be similar to the ThinkPad X1 2022 model. It has a 16.3-inch 2024 x 2460p fully-extended display.

The Thinkpad X1 has a 12-inch retracted form factor. There are essential details still lacking for the exciting Thinkpad laptop. It is expected that more fantastic details will be provided during CES 2023 early next year. Lenovo is among a few OEMs that have shown initiative in rollable technology. LG reportedly was deep into the technology before it pulled the plug on smartphone production.
