Millet also revealed that the iPad Pro played an important role in the brand’s choice of shifting its Mac lineup to its M1 series of chips. He further added that Apple wanted to push the boundaries with its successor to the M1. The company had previously worked with Intel to power its PC lineup. But it finally decided to move away from its chip supplier and adopted its proprietary silicon.

Millet stated that “The M2 family was really now about maintaining that leadership position by pushing, again, to the limits of technology. We don’t leave things on the table. We don’t take a 20% bump and figure out how to spread it over three years… figure out how to eke out incremental gains. We take it all in one year; we just hit it really hard. That’s not what happens in the rest of the industry or historically.”
