Recent reports have suggested that Samsung has established a new team dedicated to the development of custom CPU cores for its in-house processors. However, Samsung has now confirmed that these reports are untrue, stating that it already has multiple internal teams responsible for CPU development and optimization, and has had them for a long time. Here are the details…

Samsung Optimizes In-House Processors without Establishing New CPU Development Team

The reports initially suggested that Samsung had hired a senior developer from AMD to lead the effort of developing custom CPU cores for its in-house processors, with the first chipset featuring custom cores expected to arrive in 2027. Samsung is reportedly developing specialized processors for its Galaxy devices after ditching its in-house Exynos processors due to poor performance.

While Samsung has confirmed that it is not establishing a new team for CPU development, it is constantly recruiting global talents from relevant fields to optimize its in-house processors. The idea behind developing custom CPU cores is to optimize the chipset for its devices from the development stage, allowing for deeper hardware-software integration, similar to Apple’s iPhones.

Samsung has previously developed custom CPU cores for its Exynos processors between 2016 and 2020. However, those chipsets underperformed against competing solutions from Qualcomm that used stock ARM cores. As a result, Samsung eventually decided to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors in its flagship devices.
