The PlayStation 5 (PS5) has been a massive success in the gaming industry since its launch in November 2020. Despite supply chain issues and manufacturing challenges during the pandemic, the PS5 has managed to break records and outsell its predecessor, the PS4, in the same timeframe. Sony has announced that the PS5 has sold more than 13.4 million units as of July 2021, making it the fastest-selling console in the company’s history. The PS5’s impressive sales numbers can be attributed to its improved hardware, including a faster SSD and advanced haptic feedback in its DualSense controller, as well as its impressive lineup of exclusive games such as “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” and “Demon’s Souls.” With its continued success and a strong pipeline of upcoming games, the PS5 looks poised to remain a major player in the gaming industry for years to come. Even so, the PS6 is something that every console fan will be looking forward to, and now, Sony enthusiasts have something to be excited about.

Rumors of a new PlayStation 6 (PS6) have been circulating on the internet, fueled by a tweet from WorryWartGamer claiming that a hardware designer for the console has been recruited, with PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny as the candidate. Sony is not expected to release the PS6 before 2028, but that doesn’t mean they can afford to pause development. YouTuber RedGamingTech believes that the PlayStation 5 Pro may be sacked due to Sony’s limited resources being focused on implementing company partnerships, hardware and software development, and worldwide marketing for the PS6.

Furthermore, the possibility of a modular PS5 console has already been rumoured, which could prompt Sony to abandon plans for a PS5 Pro or PS5 Slim. With the groundwork for the PS6 already in motion, producing a purported detachable disk drive model would allow Sony to release a PS5-like console and move on to creating a new console that will meet the expectations of fans.
