Research firm Canalys has shared data on the worldwide shipments in the first quarter of 2023 i.e. the period from January to March. 31 percent of shipments in the opening quarter were premium devices priced above $500 MSRP. This is also said to be the highest in five years. The premium segment increased 4.7 percent YoY although the overall smartphone market contracted by 13.3 percent on a year-on-year basis. 

Four iPhones top flagship sales chart in Q1, 2023

As per the report, Apple dominated the flagship segment charts with four iPhones in the list. Launched last year, the iPhone 14 Pro Max was the best-selling flagship followed by the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14. The iPhone 13 launched in 2021 sits at the fourth spot on the list. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra bagged the fifth place making it the best-selling Android flagship. The iPhone 14 Plus came sixth meaning the entire iPhone 14 series devices made it to the list of top-selling flagships in Q1, 2023. 

As per the chart, the iPhone 14 Pro Max triumphed over the Pro variant by a large distance. The shipments of the one-year-old iPhone 13 were also better than the current-generation iPhone 14 Plus. 

Surprisingly, the older iPhone 12 and iPhone SE (3rd Gen) were also in the list of best-selling flagships in the opening quarter of the year. Apple had a total of seven iPhones in the list whereas Samsung had six devices. Apart from the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the S23, S23 Plus, Galaxy Z Flip 4, S22, and S21 FE 5G were the best-selling flagships from the South Korean brand. Among Chinese OEMs, only Xiaomi’s Xiaomi 13 and Huawei’s Mate 50 were the best-selling flagship

Some notable missing names from the list were Google, OPPO, Vivo, and OnePlus.phones.
