The official Asus ROG India Twitter handle has tweeted out a teaser for the ROG Ally, hinting at its upcoming arrival in India. This is great news for Indian gamers as the ROG Ally will be among the first current-gen handheld gaming consoles launching in the country. Yes, the Nintendo Switch and the Valve Steam deck can be bought in India, however, the respective brands have not officially launched them in the country, which results in the imported consoles selling for high prices and without any warranty or official customer support.

The surge in mobile gaming in India suggests a strong desire for gaming handhelds within the country. However, the pricing of these consoles will significantly impact their popularity. Recent leaks unveiled the pricing details of the ROG Ally with the AMD Ryzen Z1 processor, estimated at 71,999 INR (approximately $875), while the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor variant is expected to cost 79,999 INR (around $973). These leaked prices appear considerably higher compared to the US prices of $599 and $699 respectively, which may seem exorbitant to Indian consumers.

The Asus ROG Ally handheld gaming console features a 7-inch IPS display with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen offers smooth visuals with its 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection for added durability.

The console is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, based on the Zen 4 architecture. There is also a slightly lower-spec version available with the Ryzen Z1 processor. With AMD Radeon Navi3 Graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and a 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, the ROG Ally delivers strong performance for gaming and multitasking.

Running on Windows 11, the console provides access to a wide range of games from platforms like Steam, EA apps, Epic Games, and Xbox Game Pass. It even includes a three-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The dual speaker setup with Asus’ Smart Amplifier Technology enhances the gaming experience with improved audio quality.

In terms of connectivity, the console offers a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type C port combo for the ROG XG Mobile Interface, and support for a UHS-II microSD card reader. However, it’s important to note that the battery life of the ROG Ally’s 40WHr battery with 65W charging support may not match up to its competitors, such as the Steam Deck.
