In December 2022, Nubia unveiled the Nubia Z50 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip onboard in China. In March of this year, the brand announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Nubia Z50 Ultra with improvements in departments like display and rear cameras. As per a Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station, Nubia is working on a flagship phone. In all likelihood, it will break cover as a Z50-series smartphone.

According to the tipster, Nubia is gearing up to release its upcoming flagship phone, which will feature the upcoming high-frequency version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, ensuring optimal performance. The new chip is tentatively named the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 by the rumor mill.

The Nubia Z50 and Z50 Ultra are equipped with a 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 primary camera with a 35mm equivalent lens. According to the tipster, the upcoming Nubia flagship will feature an upgraded primary camera, promising an improved photography experience. He did not reveal any other information about the device.

The launch of Nubia’s upcoming Z-series flagship is likely to occur shortly after the release of the Red Magic 8S Pro gaming smartphone, which is scheduled for July 5 in China. The Red Magic 8S Pro is anticipated to be the world’s first phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 chipset. It is possible that while featuring the new chip, the Red Magic 8S Pro’s specifications could be similar to those of the previously announced Red Magic 8 Pro.

Although Qualcomm has not officially provided information regarding the availability of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2, it is expected to make an announcement in the days leading up to the Red Magic 8S Pro launch event. The OnePlus Ace 2 Pro which is expected to debut in August in China may also come equipped with the new chip.
