The next major update for the Galaxy Watch, One UI Watch 5, is now rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 5. The Galaxy Watch 4 series will also be getting the update shortly. One UI Watch 5 is based on Wear OS 4 and brings a number of new features and improvements to the Galaxy Watch lineup.

Unfortunately, Galaxy smartwatches released before 2021, such as the Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch 2 Active, will not be getting this update since they run on Wear OS 3. However, Samsung has a small surprise in store for Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Galaxy Watch 3 users: they will get a new software update which will include a couple of new watch faces from Galaxy Watch 6.

Tizen OS users can now enjoy One UI Watch 5 watch faces

Samsung collaborated with Google to create a new Wear OS platform for its smartwatches. The first smartwatches to use this platform were the Galaxy Watch 4 series. And since then, all of the company’s new Galaxy Watch software has been based on this platform since then.

However, this leaves Samsung’s earlier smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Galaxy Watch 3, out of luck. These smartwatches have Samsung’s own Tizen OS pre-installed, and they will never be updated to the new Wear OS platform.

But looks like the company hasn’t forgotten about its older Tizen smartwatches since it announced that OneUI Watch 5’s  Stretched Time and Perpetual watch faces will also be released for the older Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Galaxy Watch 3.

Samsung has announced that these new watch faces will be coming to its Tizen OS smartwatches “this fall”. However, the company has not yet revealed an exact release date.
