As scheduled, HMD Global has launched the Nokia G42 5G in India today. It is the country’s second Nokia-branded 5G smartphone as well as one of the most affordable on the market.

The company positions this product as durable and environmentally friendly. Priced under ₹15,000, it even arrives with a compelling set of features.

The Nokia G42 5G is built around a 6.56-inch display (LCD) sporting a dewdrop notch and a resolution of 1612 x 720 pixels (HD+). The Corning Gorilla Glass 3-protected screen has a 90Hz refresh rate and a 450 nits peak brightness level.

Under the hood, the phone houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus chip and a 5,000mAh battery. Its back panel is made of 65% recycled plastic and ships with a 20W charger, a cable, and a case.

As for optics, the smartphone is equipped with a triple camera system on the rear comprising a 50MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro snapper, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, it has an 8MP shooter for selfies and video calls.

Apart from 5G, the device supports WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, GNSS, and USB Type-C. Other features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a MicroSD card slot, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Finally, the phone boots Android 13 and is guaranteed to receive two Android OS updates and three years of security updates.

Nokia G42 5G Price

The Nokia G42 5G is offered in a single 6GB + 128GB memory configuration in India. It is priced at just ₹12,599 (~$150).

It can be availed in either So Purple or So Grey color options. The handset will go on sale from September 15 at 12 PM.

At this price, it competes directly with the Redmi 12 5G and the Poco M6 Pro 5G, which start at ₹11,999 and ₹10,999, respectively.
