A famous Chinese Electronic Vehicle (EV) maker launched its maiden smartphone at an event in Shanghai, China. After several rumors and leaks, the company pulled the wraps off the new smartphone. Nio Phone can control multiple cars and can even unlock it even if the smartphone is off.

Nio Phone Features

Nio Phone is built to control cars, and it even houses a dedicated button that can act as a key for the car. There’s a standalone app on the smartphone that enables the smartphone to connect more conveniently and seamlessly with the car. Apart from controlling the car, the smart features will help in the easy transition of a video meeting from smartphone to vehicle. Other features like syncing music, contacts, and personal device settings will automatically sync with the car.

Nio Phone Specifications:

Nio Phone is powered with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and couples 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. It houses Samsung’s 6.81-inch curved display having 2K resolution and a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate. The display further supports 515-pixel density and offers HDR 10+ support.

In the camera section, the Nio Phone brings a triple rear camera sensor featuring a 50MP IMX707 lens with OIS, a 50MP IMX766 Ultrawide sensor, and another 50MP IMX890 telephoto lens with OIS.

The smartphone brings a 5200 mAh battery with 66W fast wired charging, 50W fast wireless charging and 10W reverse charging support. It runs Android via Sky UI skin.

It debuts in three different storage modes, and is priced as follows:

  • Performance Edition – 12GB RAM + 512GB Storage – Yuan 6,499 (~$889)
  • Ultimate Edition – 12GB + 1TB – Yuan 6,899 (~$944)
  • EP Edition – 16GB + 1TB – Yuan 7,499 (~$1026)

Speaking on the occasion, William Li, CEO of Nio said, “What we are pursuing is the car experience and the emotional experience we can provide to our users.”

Nio Phone is priced at $900-$1000 and it will start shipping on September 28 as pre-orders are live now. It is available for users in China. The Nio Phone App has 600,000 daily active users.

“We pay more attention to the value that each user brings to our entire brand, and it is more convenient to connect users. It is also more efficient than before,” Li said. “What we are pursuing is the car experience and the emotional experience we can provide to our users.”

The Nio Phone is currently limited to China, and there are no plans for its release in European countries where their EV vehicles are already retailing.

Nio EV Market

On a daily basis, Nio has been delivering 20,000 EVs every month in the past couple of months. The profits from EVs have doubled as per the Q2 financial report. It has registered a “continued growth” over the year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter basis.

As per Willian Li, there are no expansion plans in Europe apart from the five countries it is already present.
