So why the price hike? Surprisingly, the Dolphin sold in Mexico isn’t a different variant; it’s identical to the one available in China. This suggests that shipping and import costs are playing a big role in the steep increase. Meanwhile, Europe gets a slightly different version of the Dolphin, re-engineered to meet local safety standards, yet priced similarly to the Mexican offering.
The car packs a 94-horsepower electric motor and boasts an impressive range of 251 miles on a full charge. With its eco-friendly credentials and substantial range, the Dolphin could become a game-changer in the affordable EV segment—provided the price barrier can be overcome.
This is particularly relevant for the United States, where budget EV options are scant. The arrival of the Dolphin in Mexico might just signal that this budget-friendly electric hatchback could soon reach U.S. shores.
