Earlier this month, Sony unveiled the Xperia 5 V smartphone in the global market. The device is essentially a compact flagship with a 6.1-inch display, a powerful SoC, and a large battery. It also comes with Sony’s flagship Exmore T camera sensor which debuted with Xperia 1 V. The phone is now available to purchase in various regions of Europe.

Sony Xperia 5 V‘s 6.1-inch OLED display boasts a crisp FHD+ resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and support for HDR content. Under the hood, it houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, complemented by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage via a microSD card. Powering the device is a large 5,000mAh battery, supporting 30W wired fast charging and 18W wireless fast charging.

The camera setup is composed of a 48MP main sensor, utilizing a 52-megapixel Exmore T Main sensor with an effective 48-megapixel resolution. By default, this camera captures 12-megapixel shots at a 24mm equivalent focal length, equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS) and autofocus. Notably, it offers 2x optical zoom. Additionally, there’s a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 16mm focal length, featuring dual-pixel autofocus.

The Xperia 5 V prioritizes durability with its IP68 water and dust resistance, and it incorporates Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection on both the front and back panels. Audio enthusiasts will appreciate its LDAC and Hi-Res Audio support, alongside the immersive audio experience delivered by the full-stage stereo speakers. The device comes preloaded with the Android 13-based operating system.

Pricing & availability

The Sony Xperia 5 V has arrived in many European markets including France, Germany, and Spain. It has a price tag of €999. As for the UK, the phone is still in its pre-ordering phase, with a price tag of £849.
