The iPhone 16 series is still a year away, but rumors about the upcoming devices have already started circulating. According to a new report by analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities, Apple will use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X75 modem in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models.

iPhone 16 Pro Snapdragon X75 modem

Announced in February 2023, the Snapdragon X75 modem offers faster and more efficient 5G connectivity than the Snapdragon X70 modem that is used in the current iPhone 15 lineup. It also features a smaller footprint and has about 20% lower power consumption.

However, Pu also suggests that Apple will only use the Snapdragon X75 modem in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. The standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models are expected to retain the Snapdragon X70 modem.

This would be a change in strategy for Apple, as the company has typically used the same Qualcomm modem across all models for each generation of iPhones.

It is unclear why Apple would choose to use different modems in the iPhone 16 lineup. However, it is possible that the company is trying to further differentiate the Pro and Pro Max models from the baseline iPhones.

Additionally, Pu suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will have larger displays, measuring 0.2 inches more than the current 6.1- and 6.7-inch sizes.

It is still too early to say for sure whether these rumors are accurate, but they provide some interesting insights into what Apple may have planned for the iPhone 16 series.
