Apple follows the tradition of differentiating the non-pro iPhones from the pro models. Last year, the company introduced the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro. This year it arrived on the non-pro iPhone 15. The Cupertino-based tech giant also replaced the mute switch with the new action button on the latest generation iPhone 15 Pro variants. However, it did not make its way to the non-pro models. Now a new report suggests that the action button will become mainstream on next year’s iPhone 16 series.

All iPhone 16 models will get action button

MacRumours reports that Apple will introduce the action button on all four iPhone 16 series devices including the standard, plus, pro, and pro max variants. The company is also working on making the button more powerful by adding more features. The publication adds that Apple will make the button capacitive instead of a mechanical switch. It will work with force sensor feedback similar to the Touch ID on older iPhones and the Force Touch trackpad on MacBooks. The revamped action button is codenamed Atlas under development.

Apple is also said to be experimenting with different sizes of action buttons on the iPhone 16 with some designs having larger buttons than the iPhone 15 Pro models. The changes are based on pre-product information through internal documents. Hence the actual implementation could slightly be different.

The report also adds that the action button will be joined by the new capacitive Capture button that is said to be planned for the iPhone 16 lineup. The fourth-generation iPhone SE is also rumoured to feature the action button. This will completely put an end to the mute switch on future iPhone models.
