Asus recently confirmed that it will unveil the ROG Phone 8 series of gaming phones on Jan. 8. In China, the brand is going to unveil the ROG Phone 8 lineup on Jan. 16. Well ahead of the launch, WindowsReport has published a report to leak the renders and full specifications of the ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro. Here is a look at what to expect from both smartphones.
Asus ROG Phone 8 series design
The leaked renders show that the upcoming ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro mark a significant shift from the traditional hardcore gaming phone design of their predecessors. The front now features a modern punch-hole display, while the back boasts a prominent camera module in the top-right corner. The back panel also features an RGB-lit logo and gaming mottos. The report states that the ROG Phone 8 has a matte finish on the back, whereas the Pro variant looks premium with its glossy rear design. Here is a look at the leaked specifications of the ROG Phone 8 series.
Asus ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro specifications (rumored)
The report states that the ROG Phone 8 series will have a 6.78-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the device will pack a 5,500mAh battery with 65W charging capability, as per 3C certification. Additional features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a 5-magnet speaker.
On the connectivity front, the ROG Phone 8 series will offer Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. The phones will run on Android 14 with the ROG UI. Notably, both models have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and an IP68 rating. Both phones will come in a Rebel Grey shade, apart from other colors.
The standard ROG Phone 8 is equipped with 12 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the ROG Phone 8 Pro offers a choice between 16 GB or 24 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The Pro variant’s rear camera setup has a 32-megapixel selfie camera and a rear configuration consisting of a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 32-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The standard variant has a matte finish, while the Pro variant sports a glossy, premium look. It measures 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9mm and weighs 225 grams. At present, there is no information about the cameras or dimensions of the standard model.
In addition, the ROG Phone 8 series will come with an Aero Case and fast charger in the box. Asus will also offer gaming-focused accessories, such as the DEVILCASE Guardian phone case supporting the AeroActive Cooler X, as shown in the leaked image above.
