Apple devices have become known for their long lifespan and extensive software compatibility. Unfortunately, with the introduction of iOS 18, the software support for some devices will come to an end. The iPad models that will not receive the next iOS upgrade have been revealed, in addition to some iPhones.

Apple devices to receive iOS 18 update

MacRumors shared some hints about the upcoming iOS 18 update. Although Apple promises to provide its devices with long-term software support, it appears that some of the devices’ software support is over which is a bad news. iPhone XR, which was released in 2018, is the oldest iPhone model to receive iOS 18. It actually reveals Apple’s great commitment into an astounding six years of software support for a smartphone. Here are the iPad and iPhone models that will continue to receive software updates.

  • iPad Pro 2018 and newer
  • iPad Air 2019 and newer
  • iPad mini 2019 and newer
  • iPad 2020 and newer

iPadOS 18 will not be available on tablets with Apple Fusion 10X and Fusion 10 chipsets, meaning the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch will not receive new iOS versions anymore. On the iPhone side, it actually doesn’t look like too much different. Here is the list of iPhones that will receive the iOS 18 update.

Apple is expected to reveal the new iOS 18 during the WWDC event to be held in June 2024. This update might bring the RCS messaging to iPhones and offer various AI features built into the operating system.
