Motorola has officially launched the Edge 50 Ultra, the latest addition to its flagship smartphone lineup, offering powerful specs and unique design features to the global market.

Design-wise, the phone looks quite similar to the recently launched Edge 50 Pro with a square camera island housing three camera lenses. The smartphone will be available in three finishes: Forest Grey and Peach Fuzz, which are vegan leather options, and Nordic Wood, which features a back made of actual wood with subtle wood fragrance infused into it. All three options come with a Sandblasted aluminum frame.

The Edge 50 Ultra features a 6.7-inch LTPS pOLED display with a resolution of 2,712 x 1,220 pixels and a 144 Hz refresh rate, paired with a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. The screen’s 20:9 aspect ratio, combined with HDR10+ support and a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio. It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and has received Pantone validation. The display also houses an in-built fingerprint sensor for security and is protected by 3D Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with anti-fingerprint coating.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset and equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Its 4,500 mAh battery supports 125W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W wireless power sharing. For audio, it has dual-stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos and x-axis vibrating motors are there for haptics.

As for connectivity, the phone is available in both single-SIM (compatible with either SIM or eSIM) and dual-SIM (supporting both SIM and eSIM) variants. Additionally, the device also has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The phone also has NFC support. As for software, the Edge 50 Ultra comes with an Android 14-based operating system with interesting features like edge light that alerts you of incoming calls, notifications, and alarms.

Camera

For photography, the Edge 50 Ultra features a triple camera setup on the back including a 50MP 1/1.3” sensor and an f/1.6 lens equipped with omnidirectional autofocus and OIS. It also has a 64MP periscope camera sensor with f/2.4 aperture, as well as a 50MP ultra-wide camera that offers a 122° field of view and autofocus for macro shots. Both utilize a laser autofocus system and a 3-in-1 sensor for exposure, auto white balance, and flicker detection.

The front camera boasts a 50MP sensor with autofocus and an f/1.9 lens. All cameras support 4K video recording at 60fps, with slow-motion modes available at 1080p (120fps on the front, up to 960fps on the back).

The camera system offers a bunch of shooting modes such as Portrait, Macro, Long Exposure, Timelapse, Dual Capture, Ultra-Res, Night Vision, Tilt-Shift, Pro, Spot Color, and Scan (powered by Adobe Scan), alongside 360° Panorama. The camera also supports AI features like the Photo Enhancement Engine, Action Shot, Auto Smile Capture, Gesture Capture, Google Lens integration, Color Optimization, Smart High Resolution, and Style Sync.

Pricing & availability

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has a starting price of €999 in the Eurozone. While specific release dates have not been announced, the smartphone is expected to be available in select markets across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania soon, with plans to enter the North American market later this year.
