Huawei is already embroiled in another controversy, this time, with regards to its new Huawei Pura 70 smartphone.

The Pura 70 series (our hands on here) boasts an AI-powered object removal function, designed to make photo editing seamless. Yet, this feature has sparked controversy and concern among users. Disgruntled customers took to Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform, to demonstrate a worrying flaw: the AI’s ability to inadvertently remove parts of clothing from images with just a tap.

Videos posted by users show how easily clothing can be edited out, raising alarms over the potential for misuse. Such capabilities could lead to privacy invasions and the sharing of inappropriate content without consent, highlighting serious ethical and privacy issues.

We actually tried to recreate this in our unit and it was worrying to see the feature in action. We hope Huawei fixes this very soon.
