Back in April 2024, the Oppo A3 Pro was announced in China as the brand’s latest mid range device. This was also the first model in the A3 series as it appears that a base Oppo A3 is also in the works. But what’s coming and what do we know so far? So here’s a sneak peek.

1. Oppo A3: Distinct Design over the A3 Pro

The Chinese brand’s Oppo A3 was just recently spotted in a TENAA certification platform. This not only gave us more details regarding its specs but also showcased its front and rear design. From the back, this device looks slightly familiar to the Sony Xperia 1 V, with vertically stacked camera sensors in an oval shaped camera module.

The module houses the LED flash as well. This is distinct from the Oppo A3 Pro’s circular camera island. While it is unclear, the front seems to have curved edges and the rear has a flat back. We don’t know if the IP69 protection rating will return on the base model, since it was featured on the Oppo A3 Pro. The upcoming A3 model measures 8.1mm in thickness and 191 grams in weight.

2. Upgrade from LCD to AMOLED

To recall, the Oppo A2 was announced in China with an IPS LCD panel. The TENAA listing confirmed that its successor, Oppo A3 (PJT110), will get an upgrade with an AMOLED display that is 6.67 inches tall. This screen is also expected to offer Full HD+ resolution. While we can’t see the selfie camera, we can expect to see a punch hole cutout on the next-gen model like its predecessor. The older model came with a 90Hz refresh rate, so the A3 would offer a similar or a higher refresh rate panel.

3. Specs: Processor, RAM, & More

Under the hood, the certification confirmed that the Oppo A3 is equipped with a 2.2GHz chipset. The A2 launched with the Dimensity 6020, so there’s a chance that it may come with a Dimensity 7020 processor. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation at the moment. The chipset may be paired with 8GB and 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, and even 512GB of internal storage.

One could even expand storage via a microSD card slot. The Oppo A3 is set to be powered by a large 5,500mAh battery pack that could support 33W wired fast charging. For security, it houses an in-display fingerprint scanner. The new handset will likely run on the Android 14 OS based ColorOS 14 custom skin out of the box.

4. Photography may not see major changes

Back in 2023, the Oppo A2 arrived with a 50-megapixel primary and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Looking at the image, the dual camera setup returns. The primary may retain a 50-megapixel sensor but with a newer sensor that likely offers a 2-megapixel depth sensor again as well.

5. Expected launch date & pricing

Oppo’s A2 5G launched as the most affordable 512GB storage phone with a starting price tag of 1,699 Yuan (roughly 235 US Dollars). However, it’s possible that the upgrades in specs will likely reflect a higher price. The Oppo A3 was expected to go official before the end of April in China. But as May begins, its release could be teased for this month. We can expect teasers and more leaks to surface online soon, so stick around for more updates.
