Leaks and rumors revealed plenty of information about the Pixel 8a leaving nothing to the imagination. Unsurprisingly, Google has quietly announced the smartphone ahead of its annual I/O Developer conference. The latest-generation mid-range offering arrives as the successor to last year’s Pixel 7a. It packs significant upgrades over its predecessor.
Google Pixel 8a launches quietly

The Google Pixel 8a has a 6.1-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution. The refresh rate is upgraded to 120Hz from 90Hz and the peak brightness is now 2,000 nits which is up from 1,070 nits on its predecessor. The screen is shielded by Gorilla Glass 3.
The Pixel 8a has the same design as the premium Pixel 8 models. The corners are more rounded and there is a horizontal camera bridge. The smartphone is IP67-certified dust and water-resistant. There is an in-screen fingerprint scanner.
On the optics front, the Pixel 8a features a 64MP main camera with support for OIS and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens. There is a 13MP front-facing selfie snapper. It is capable of recording up to 4K videos with both front and rear cameras. There are a host of camera-related features like magic editor, best take, ultra HDR, and more.
Internally, the Pixel 8a is equipped with a Tensor G3 chipset. It packs 8GB RAM and is offered in 128GB and 256GB storage options. The smartphone draws its power from a 4,492mAh battery unit with support for 18W wired charging and wireless charging. Software-wise, the device runs on Android 14 OS with 7 years of guaranteed updates. The phone also gets AI features including Circle to Search, Pixel call assistance, and Gemini.
Google Pixel 8a pricing and availability
The Google Pixel 8a is offered in Bay, Aloe, Obsidian, and Porcelain colors. The smartphone starts at $499 / Rs 52,999 for the base 128GB variant whereas the 256GB model costs $559 / Rs 59,999. Pre-orders start today with sales commencing May 14.
