A new leak from Weibo tipster @FixedFocus has revealed details about the upcoming HarmonyOS NEXT Developer Preview 2 (DP2), raising expectations for Huawei‘s next-generation operating system.
The leak suggests that HarmonyOS NEXT offers superior animation effects compared to Android. While the official release date of DP2 is still unconfirmed, @FixedFocus shared their experience with the new build, highlighting its capabilities.

Interestingly, the leak claims that HarmonyOS NEXT’s “Developer options” are similar to those of Android but surpass them in various aspects. The tipster emphasized that Huawei’s OS is independent and does not rely on Linux or the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
This isn’t the first time HarmonyOS NEXT has been praised for its smooth performance. Early reports have consistently described the upcoming OS as more fluid and seamless than its predecessors, particularly on smartphones and tablets.
The leak also hints at powerful AI features within HarmonyOS NEXT. However, details remain scarce and may be revealed in future builds or the consumer beta.
Currently, Huawei devices run on HarmonyOS 4.2, and users might be concerned about data loss during the major “NEXT” upgrade.

To tackle that, the tipster revealed a feature called “Cloud Virtual Phone” (Cloud Phone Host) in work the upcoming OS. This feature will allow users to temporarily store their data for a month, upgrade to HarmonyOS NEXT, and then download all their data back onto the phone. While Huawei has previously released this feature, potential improvements for HarmonyOS NEXT are still unclear.
The leak concludes with the news that the official HarmonyOS NEXT beta release is slated for June 21st. We can expect further details on its impressive features at that time.
