Huawei Mate 70 series to feature next-gen Hisilcon Kirin chip, claims tipster

Huawei has confirmed that its upcoming Mate 70 series will be the first to launch with the official version of its in-house operating system, HarmonyOS NEXT. The announcement came during the HDC 2024 Huawei Developer Conference, which also revealed an expected release window in the fourth quarter of this year (October to December).

Now a fresh new leak by prolific tipster Digital Chat Station suggests the Mate 70 will feature a new generation of HiSilicon Kirin 5G SoC, signifying Huawei’s continued commitment to its in-house chipset development. 

The phone is also rumored to feature a domestically produced 50-megapixel ultra-large-bottom CMOS image sensor likely from OmniVision. 

Additionally, Digital Chat Station hints that Huawei is working on a more “heavyweight product.” However, this product is reportedly facing production difficulties due to an extremely low yield rate. While it’s unclear exactly what this product is, it could be a new top-tier model in the Mate 70 series.

Another positive sign for the HarmonyOS ecosystem comes from comments made by the tipster. They claim that WeChat, China’s ubiquitous messaging and social media app, is working on developing a native app for the HarmonyOS NEXT consumer version.
