Recent reports from Reddit users indicate that some Pixel 6 devices are being bricked after the Android 15 update, particularly when using the new “Private Space” feature. Although not all users are affected, the growing number of cases suggests a serious issue, and Google has yet to respond officially.

The issue

The issue seems to arise when users enable the Private Space feature on their Pixel 6 devices. Two users, GegoByte and Homer_95, have detailed their experiences on Reddit. GegoByte mentioned that their device became unresponsive right after launching an app within Private Space, while Homer_95 reported a bricking incident during regular phone use, despite having sufficient battery.

Android 15 update

Both users described their phones as “completely dead,” with typical troubleshooting methods, like pressing the Power and Volume Down buttons, proving ineffective. Connecting the devices to a computer also did not help.

Although some initial speculation suggested that the issue might be related to user profiles, similar to problems seen with the Android 14 update, the exact cause remains uncertain. More reports of bricked devices have emerged, indicating that it might not be limited to Private Space alone.

New Android 15 features

Android 15 introduced several new features aimed at enhancing privacy and security. The Private Space feature, in particular, allows users to hide sensitive apps and data within a secure, isolated environment. However, its functionality has led to unexpected issues on some Pixel 6 devices.

Other key features of Android 15 include Theft Detection, improved multitasking for foldable devices, and better integration for smart home devices, as highlighted by Google in their official announcement.

While the update has been rolled out to other Pixel devices without significant issues, the Pixel 6 appears to be uniquely affected. This raises concerns about compatibility or bugs specific to this model, and affected users are urged to avoid enabling Private Space until the problem is addressed.

With multiple reports of Pixel 6 series devices becoming completely unresponsive, those who own a Pixel 6 are advised to proceed with caution, particularly when using new features like Private Space. That said, we hope Google fixes the issue as soon as possible.
