Gamers worldwide are eagerly awaiting the launch of Nintendo’s next generation handheld console. The model in question is the Switch 2, which is a true successor to the massively successful Nintendo Switch. While Nintendo has yet to officially announce any finer details regarding this portable console, leaks and rumors have given us some insight into what we can expect. From its price tag to its performance, we have already covered various reports regarding the Nintendo Switch 2. So here’s everything we know so far.
While Nintendo has not confirmed the price, there have already been plenty of rumors circulating regarding the possible pricing of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Some of the recent leaks suggest that the next handheld gaming console could be priced between $399 and $499.
If this is true, then the company is planning a notable price bump when comparing it with the original Nintendo Switch, which costs just around $299. The Switch will still be more affordable than the latest PlayStation or Xbox, but those are full sized consoles with vastly better performance. Considering how Nintendo has priced its console, it might prioritize accessibility and affordability. So the brand could be aiming for a more competitive price point that is closer to the $400 range to appeal to a broader audience.
2. When does it drop?
Nintendo has officially announced that its highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will take place on 2nd April 2025 at 6 AM PST. During this event, we can expect the brand to finally reveal the availability details of the console like when it’s going to launch and how much is it going to cost. Furthermore, all of the key features and upgrades over the original Nintendo Switch would likely be showcased during this major launch conference as well.
3. Specifications
The Switch 2 will be arriving eight years after the launch of the original Switch. Nintendo kept many details under wraps, however, recent leaks and teasers have given fans a glimpse of what to expect. The new console still retains the hybrid design of its predecessor, which means you can dock it and also game on it like a handheld.
But one of the upgrades that are immediately noticeable is the display. It features a larger 8-inch display, an upgrade from the original 6.2-inch screen. While the screen type hasn’t been revealed, an OLED upgrade is possible. The resolution should likely be getting bumped to 1080p resolution as well, over 720p. Apart from a bigger footprint overall, the Joy Con controllers are also getting an upgrade with a new attachment mechanism that replaces the sliding rail system with a magnetic connection.
