Samsung’s slimmest phone in years, the Galaxy S25 Edge, comes with a 3,900mAh battery. That might not sound like much, especially in 2025 when even mid-range phones are starting to ship with 6,000mAh cells.
But if that number didn’t impress you, the latest leak about Apple’s iPhone 17 Air might make things even more disappointing.
iPhone 17 Air will not even have a 3000mAh cell
A new report on Naver, citing sources within Apple’s supply chain, claims the iPhone 17 Air will be just 5.5mm thick. That’s incredibly slim, and it lives up to the rumored “Air” branding. The catch, however, is that it could come with only a 2,800mAh battery.
For a 2025 smartphone, that is tiny. Even the original Galaxy Z Flip from five years ago had a 3,300mAh battery, and it was a foldable. Meanwhile, Samsung has managed to fit a decent 3,900mAh cell into the ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge.

There is a bit of good news. The leak suggests Apple might use high-density battery technology that could increase capacity by 15 to 20 percent. That might help, but we will have to see how it holds up in the real world.
The iPhone 17 Air is also expected to weigh just 145 grams, which makes it one of the lightest smartphones in its class.
In other aspects, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display with Dynamic Island and a Camera Control button. Apple is also expected to make a 120Hz refresh rate standard on all iPhone 17s. It is likely to be powered by an A19 chip, WiFi 7, and a more durable display glass.
The Air’s pricing is expected to be lower than the iPhone 17 Pro, which starts at $999. The iPhone 17 series, including the Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, is anticipated for release in September or October 2025.
