Xiaomi Android 16 update

Xiaomi has been proactively working on Android 16. As a result, it was able to offer users with an early preview of the newest software well before the stable release. In fact, Xiaomi has already started rolling out the stable version of Android 16, making it the first non-Google brand to do so.

The update is currently available for select Xiaomi devices and will gradually expand to the remaining devices over the coming weeks and months. If you’re waiting for this major upgrade on your Xiaomi phone or tablet, here’s everything you need to know.

Xiaomi Android 16 rollout plan

Google released the stable version of Android 16 in June — months ahead of its usual schedule. Following that stable release by Google, other brands typically take a few weeks to roll out the stable software. This phase includes adding new features, optimizing the software, and integrating it with the newest version of Android. Xiaomi moved swiftly through this phase and has already started pushing the Android 16 update with its HyperOS 2.3 custom skin.

Xiaomi 15 was the first device to get stable Android 16 and HyperOS 2.3 software globally earlier this month, folllowed by the Xiaomi 14T Pro. While the brand hasn’t published a roadmap yet, it’s likely that flagship devices will be the priority, and then the update should reach mid-range and cheaper models.

What’s new in Android 16 for Xiaomi devices?

This major upgrade doesn’t introduce radical UI changes or groundbreaking features, but it brings plenty of under-the-hood improvements aimed at a smoother and more consistent user experience.

The HyperOS 2.3 upgrade enhances animations and transitions, and allows better integration with newer apps. The update should also bring the latest security features from Android 16 to keep your Android device safer from emerging threats.

The memory management has been optimized. Users now have more control over their privacy settings. The update also introduces a new version of the Privacy Sandbox, which enhances users’ privacy while supporting a healthy advertising ecosystem.
