Xiaomi is quietly preparing to launch a new addition to its smart home lineup — and this one might be its most practical yet. The Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock has appeared on the company’s global website, hinting at an upcoming international release. The idea is simple: turn your regular lock into a connected one, without tools, drilling, or a pricey installation service.

This smart lock is designed to fit over your existing mechanism, upgrading it rather than replacing it. It comes in two main parts — a compact motorized lock unit and a separate keypad. Xiaomi says installation takes just a few minutes, making it a great option for renters or anyone who isn’t exactly handy with power tools. Despite its simplicity, the lock promises wide compatibility with standard door types while keeping your original keyhole intact.
You’ll have multiple ways to unlock it. There’s a built-in fingerprint reader with a claimed 99.3% accuracy rate, a keypad for passcodes (including temporary ones for guests), and full app control via the Mi Home app. That means you can lock or unlock the door remotely over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth — or even ask your smart assistant to do it for you. There’s also a traditional key option in case your battery dies.

Other smart touches include auto-locking, real-time status updates, and alerts for things like tampering or when family members arrive home.
The real highlight, though, is Matter support, allowing it to work seamlessly with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and more. That makes it one of the few affordable locks that can integrate across multiple ecosystems, not just Xiaomi’s own.
Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but given Xiaomi’s usual strategy, expect something in the $150–200 range. With the product already listed on the company’s global website, a launch seems close.
For anyone who wants smart home convenience without changing their entire door setup, Xiaomi’s Self-Install Smart Lock could be a surprisingly easy win — simple, smart, and ready for the connected age.
