Xiaomi has quietly kicked off internal beta testing of HyperOS 3.0.34.0 for the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, and it aims to make the phone’s secondary rear screen more useful.

The update, which ranges from 568 MB to 1.2 GB depending on the device, is rolling out in phases through Xiaomi’s improved HyperOS 3 OTA logic. Users who check for updates frequently are being prioritized, with new batches pushed every 1–2 days. As always with Xiaomi’s gray-scale strategy, manually checking often guarantees earlier access.
The update enables a new personalized wallpaper feature for the rear display on the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, called “Sugar Cube” (translated from Chinese), which supports live photo and even video formats. It is described as a “fun wallpaper for the back screen.”
Other back-screen enhancements include a three-finger swipe-down gesture for screenshots (with multiple styles and screen-cover support), one-click saving of newly generated AI wallpapers to the album (requires Themes and Wallpapers app version 10.5.7.5 or higher), and fresh anime IP and 3D wallpapers added to the Theme Store specifically for the rear screen.
Beyond the fun additions, the update brings practical improvements:
- Optimized gaming performance
- Fixed network compatibility issues that caused abnormal calls
- Resolved occasional static noise during screen-off music playback
- Corrected abnormal probability display bugs
- Improved camera image quality, shooting smoothness, and overall stability
While the update is currently in internal beta and reaching devices gradually, the combination of performance fixes and the undeniably interesting “Sugar Cube” personalized wallpaper gives Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max owners something fresh to look forward to this holiday season.
