The pocket gimbal camera space is starting to get interesting again. Not long after DJI unveiled the Osmo Pocket 4 and teased the dual-camera Osmo Pocket 4 Pro, it looks like Insta360 is already lining up a response.

The company recently shared a pixelated teaser video of something called the Insta360 Luna Ultra on X, along with a pretty direct caption: “Was that it…?” It doesn’t take much reading between the lines to see that as a jab at DJI’s latest launch.
Leaker Igor Bogdanov also revealed a real-world image, focusing on the joint between the camera and the gimbal. The caption simply asked, “Does it separate?” That one line has been enough to kick off speculation about a possible detachable design.

If that turns out to be true, it could be a fairly big shift. Current pocket gimbal cameras are usually fixed units, so being able to detach the camera module opens up a few different ways to use it. Think remote shooting, mounting it in tighter spots, or even wearing it, similar to Insta360’s smaller cameras.
There’s also talk of 6x optical zoom, which, if accurate, would be a notable jump over the 3x zoom that DJI’s Pocket 4 Pro is expected to offer. That alone could make a difference for creators who shoot a lot of distant subjects or want more flexibility without relying on digital zoom.
The timing of the teaser and the tone Insta360 is using suggest it’s not just a minor update. The company seems to be positioning the Luna Ultra as something a bit more experimental, or at least more flexible than the Osmo Pocket 4.
If even part of these leaks hold up, the competition between Insta360 and DJI could get a lot more interesting in the coming weeks.
