The SJCAM C400 takes a different approach to the action-camera market. Instead of simply shrinking down a conventional action camera, it combines a tiny detachable camera with a battery grip that doubles as a larger monitor and wireless controller. The result is a versatile setup aimed at casual vloggers, travelers, and everyday creators.

It records in 4K, features six-axis gyro stabilization, has a rotating touchscreen, and can deliver up to seven hours of claimed battery life with its grip. It also comes with a generous selection of mounting accessories. However, the C400 isn’t without compromises, particularly when you push it beyond casual shooting.

5Battery Life Is a Major Strength

Battery life is one of the C400’s strongest features.

The standalone camera is rated for up to 172 minutes of 4K/30fps recording, while the 3,000mAh battery grip increases the claimed runtime to 437 minutes, or more than seven hours.

That’s excellent for travel and day-long recording. Instead of carrying multiple batteries, you can simply attach the grip when you need additional runtime.

SJCAM also says the camera shouldn’t be charged with a fast charger. The USB-C port on the grip is designed for charging, while data transfer takes place through the camera’s USB-C port.
