The SJCAM C400 takes a different approach to the action-camera market. Instead of simply shrinking down a conventional action camera, it combines a tiny detachable camera with a battery grip that doubles as a larger monitor and wireless controller. The result is a versatile setup aimed at casual vloggers, travelers, and everyday creators.

It records in 4K, features six-axis gyro stabilization, has a rotating touchscreen, and can deliver up to seven hours of claimed battery life with its grip. It also comes with a generous selection of mounting accessories. However, the C400 isn’t without compromises, particularly when you push it beyond casual shooting.

The SJCAM C400 is an interesting alternative to conventional action cameras because it focuses as much on versatility and convenience as it does on recording specifications.

The detachable 54g camera is genuinely useful, the battery grip makes handheld shooting more comfortable, and the large rotating display gives you a much better view when recording. The wireless remote functionality and generous selection of accessories further strengthen its appeal.

There are compromises. 4K is limited to 30fps, low-light performance isn’t its strongest area, and the lack of external microphone support limits its appeal to more serious vloggers. The absence of native waterproofing also means you’ll need the supplied case for water-based activities.

Still, the C400 makes sense for casual vloggers, travelers and everyday creators who value portability, long battery life and flexibility. It isn’t trying to be the most advanced action camera available. Instead, its appeal lies in giving you several ways to use one small camera without having to buy a collection of additional accessories.

If convenience and versatility matter more to you than flagship-level stabilization and image quality, the SJCAM C400 is worth considering.
