The word “Power” means something different on the Poco M8 Power. Instead of chasing benchmark scores or adding high-end hardware, Poco has taken a simpler route: put an 8,000mAh battery inside the phone and build the rest of the experience around it. That gives the M8 Power one of the biggest batteries you can get in this segment, along with a large 6.99-inch AMOLED display and a surprisingly long software support commitment.
The trade-offs become apparent elsewhere. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 is firmly an entry-level chipset, charging is not particularly fast for a battery this large, the cameras are merely adequate, and there is only a single speaker. After spending time with the Blaze Orange version, the M8 Power comes across as a phone that knows exactly what it wants to be — but whether that makes it a good buy depends heavily on your priorities.
1The Blaze Orange finish makes the M8 Power stand out
The Poco M8 Power’s Blaze Orange variant is easily the most attention-grabbing of the three color options. The large camera island adds to that effect, although the overall design remains fairly straightforward. The rear panel and frame are plastic, but the phone doesn’t feel cheap or poorly assembled. The matte finish also does a good job of keeping fingerprints under control.
At 8.45mm thick and 225 grams, the M8 Power is neither small nor light. The weight is noticeable, particularly during prolonged one-handed use, although the distribution is good enough that it doesn’t feel excessively top-heavy. The flat frame also provides a secure grip.
The large dimensions can take some getting used to. Reaching the upper part of the display requires some hand movement, and the phone’s size is something smaller-phone users will notice immediately.
The power and volume buttons sit on the right, while the bottom houses the USB-C port, primary microphone and speaker. An IR blaster is located at the top, and the phone carries an IP65 rating along with Gorilla Glass 7i protection.
For a phone built around an 8,000mAh cell, keeping the thickness below 8.5mm is a reasonable achievement.
