Amazfit has launched the T-Rex Dual Solar, its first AMOLED smartwatch with solar panels on both the front and back. The watch is designed for long trips and multi-day treks where access to a power outlet can be limited. It is priced at $649.99.
The watch offers up to 25 days of typical battery life, while continuous GPS use in its most accurate mode brings that figure down to 41 hours. When exposed to 50,000 lux of sunlight for three hours a day, the front solar panel can add up to nine more days of battery life. The rear panel is twice the size of the front panel, allowing it to collect more solar energy when the watch is taken off and placed face-up.
The T-Rex Dual Solar has a Grade 5 titanium bezel and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Amazfit used a similar combination on the T-Rex Ultra 2, although that model uses a larger battery instead of solar charging. The watch has a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, matching the brightness level of the Active 3 Premium launched earlier this year.
The wearable is also rated for 10 ATM water resistance and includes a built-in flashlight and SOS beacon for emergencies.
Navigation and Training
Navigation is another major part of the T-Rex Dual Solar. It comes with preloaded full-color maps, route planning, and slope information for climbs. Its LiveShare feature lets selected contacts follow your location in real time. The watch can store up to 100 routes, and you can create new routes directly from the watch without using a phone. If you move away from the planned route, it can also automatically create a new path.
The training features are similar to those found on other Amazfit watches. HybridCharge combines training load, recovery, and daily strain into one score. The watch also supports training plans from TrainingPeaks, Runna, and Intervals.icu, while completed workouts can be synced to Strava.
For users who also have the Amazfit Helio Strap, the Zepp app can combine data from both devices to provide a more complete view of recovery.
Amazfit includes a silicone strap and USB-C charging base with the T-Rex Dual Solar. The packaging is fully recyclable and does not include a separate charging cable. The smartwatch is available now for $649.99.
