Motorola just revealed its most ambitious conventional smartphone in years, and this time they’re going all-in on the high-end. The Signature 27 is being positioned as a genuine flagship rather than another near-flagship with a distinctive design.
Unveiled at the Qualcomm Tech Summit, the phone also switches to a year-based name. Unlike the original Signature, which used a step-down Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (instead of the 8 Elite Gen 5), this one gets the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
That’s a big shift for Motorola, which has mostly stayed away from true flagship chipsets in its recent conventional phones. The company is highlighting stronger on-device AI, more responsive gaming, faster network performance, and camera improvements thanks to the new platform.
To keep the powerful chip from overheating during heavy AI work, gaming, or video recording, Motorola developed an ArcticMesh cooling system. It combines a 40% larger vapor chamber with liquid metal, copper mesh, and diamond-infused thermal gel, all aimed at sustaining performance without aggressive throttling.
On the camera side, the Signature 27 uses a quad-camera setup on the rear. Confirmed sensors include a 50 MP Sony LYTIA 910 main camera (1/1.28″) and a 200 MP periscope telephoto. The other two cameras haven’t been fully detailed yet. The design itself takes inspiration from earlier Droid Razr aesthetics, with a bold multi-module camera arrangement that stands out from the usual layouts.
Software support looks solid: seven years of Android OS and security updates. Audio gets a premium boost through a partnership with Bang & Olufsen. Color options include Coal Smoke with a Tactical Weave finish and Capulet Green (also called Capulet Olive) with a brushed textile-inspired surface.
Exact global release date and pricing still aren’t out. Motorola says the Signature 27 will arrive worldwide in 2026, with a North American launch confirmed for this November. More details on the display, battery, and full camera setup should come closer to launch.
