HMD is branching out beyond phones, and a new leak suggests the company is getting into portable hotspots.

Tipster @smashx_60 on X has shared details about something called the HMD Pocket Link. It’s a compact 5G Wi-Fi hotspot that lets you share a mobile data connection with multiple devices on the go. Think of it as a pocket-sized way to turn your SIM into a wireless network for laptops, tablets, or anything else that needs internet when you’re away from Wi-Fi.

It has a small 1.77″ color LCD screen that shows the basics: signal strength, battery level, how much data you’ve used, and how many devices are connected. Inside is the Unisoc T157, an octa-core 5G chip that’s previously shown up in feature phones like the TCL T508N and Coolpad Y60 5G. It’s not a high-performance powerhouse; it’s more about efficient 5G connectivity, which makes sense for a battery-powered hotspot.

Power comes from a 3,000 mAh battery that charges over USB-C. You pop in a nano-SIM for the 5G connection and it distributes the internet over Wi-Fi 5. There’s also a “Save Data+” mode that sounds like a data-saving feature, though we don’t have full details on how it works yet.

This follows earlier rumors that HMD was working on power banks, including one with Qi2 wireless charging. Taken together, it looks like the company is expanding its accessory range.

If it does launch, the Pocket Link would give HMD a foothold in a market currently led by brands like Netgear, TP-Link, and various carrier hotspots. For travelers, remote workers, or anyone who occasionally needs to share a solid 5G connection across a few devices, a simple option from a familiar mobile brand could be handy.
