Add GIZMOCHINA as Preferred Source on Google
Nothing OS 5.0 is beginning its rollout to compatible Nothing smartphones, bringing a major refresh to the software experience. The update focuses on personalization, smoother performance and more useful AI tools. Phone (3) is the first device to receive the general release, with other Nothing and CMF phones expected to follow over the coming months.
Nothing OS 5.0 adds new visual features
Based on Android 17, Nothing OS 5.0 includes more than 80 changes across the interface, performance and AI features. The redesigned Home Screen uses transparent elements in widgets and the search bar, while an adaptive colour system takes cues from the user’s wallpaper.
A new Micrographics clock face on the Lock Screen combines the date, time, weather and upcoming meetings in one view. Essential Space is also receiving improvements, with some enhancements arriving separately through Google Play.
The update builds on features introduced during the Open Beta. Essential Voice offers faster, cleaner transcription, while Smart Collections in Essential Space helps organise saved content. Essential Apps Builder also lets users describe and create AI-powered apps directly on their phones without writing code, although access is being introduced gradually.
Nothing has also refined icons, spacing, typography and animations across the status bar, Settings, Camera and Gallery. Improvements to touch response, background app retention and resource management aim to make everyday interactions smoother, particularly when switching between apps or multitasking.
Android 17 brings further changes, including separate Notifications and Quick Settings panels, cross-platform Quick Share, enhanced privacy controls and a redesigned Recents screen. The stable rollout will expand in phases, with the Phone (4a) series and Phone (3a) series scheduled to follow in November, while other compatible models are expected to receive the update later. Availability may vary by region and carrier. What do you think of Nothing OS 5.0’s new features? Share your thoughts in the comments.
